ABOUT

My name is Ashley and I am the wife of a very supportive (and patient with my scraps of fabric on the floor) husband, and a mom to 3 wiggly and kissable little kiddos.

I created this blog in November of 2008 as a way to document the projects I was working on.  At first, it was a private blog…..but eventually I decided to share some secrets, in hopes that others would enjoy crafting during nap time (or after work) and late at night like I do.

I love seeing something in a magazine, online, or on someone walking down the street and figuring out how to make it for myself…..and sometimes with leftover scraps that I have laying around.  And I also love to see what I can come up with, to fancy up my home a bit, for a fraction of the price.  There is just something extremely gratifying with creating something on your own.  What a thrill!

So I hope you’ll read through some of the projects and will join me so we can all make it and then love it.

(**Project ideas are for personal use only…NOT for resale or re-distribution. Do not use photos or written instructions in any way without written consent.)

My email address is: makeitandloveit@gmail.com

If you have questions, comments, suggestions, or just want to chat……send me an email or leave a comment. But if you’re looking for a response back, send me an email…..it’s easier for me to get back to you that way.

I've been having a problem lately that I figured you can help me with. I've been making dresses for DD that has elastic in the arm & neck. My problem is that when I get the elastic in place in the dress and I just need to sew the ends together, I have the hardest time getting the two ends positioned perfectly under my machine needle so I can sew it together. Did that make sense? Do you know of any tricks?

Thanks! I love everything you do!

    Ashley –

Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful talent! I really am not too great at sewing, but your easy to follow instructions make me feel like a pro! So simple and straight-forward. I've never had much luck reading patterns, but with all of your easy to follow explanations and varied projects, I have been inspired to look outside the pattern, and learned how to make things for my daughter that aren't from a pattern and still look so stinkin' cute! I visit your blog a LOT for reference in my various projects (some disasters!) and really appreciate your insight and perspective in sewing!
    THANK YOU! :)

I have found your blog from centsational girl…. and love what you've got going here. I am also an "Etsier" and am so impressed by everyone's' talents there.
I was looking over the beautiful little outfit creations in She wears flowers and think her wee paisley skirt with tulle is adorable. Not saying I don't think everything else is outa'-sight.
Have subscribed onto your blog and look forward to many more enjoyable days of reading.
    Cheers,

BTW, if you, Kathryn and Melissa (both from nannygoat) got together, that would be an amazing brainstorming session, I'm sure. :-)

Thank you for being so generous with your talents and giftings. That's what I love about the blogging world. I hope that one day I will be able to GIVE BACK to those who gave so generously to me.

  29. Ashley says:

Sorry Melissa, it took me several days to realize I had a question in here. As for a cover, I would have to take one apart to see the dimensions and see how it was sewn together. I bet you could do it though and just measure around the chair. But if I come across a tutorial (or make one myself) I will let you know! :)

    Ashley

  30. MelissaSue says:

ASHLEY! Do you know of any online tutorials for covers for those foam toddler chairs?? You know those disney and cartoon character chairs? My daughters shrunk in the wash and now i have a chunk of chair shaped foam in my living room. Ew. Thanks!

  31. Ashley says:

Kelley…..thanks for a great project idea! I will have to add that to my list. I'm not a coffee drinker but man, I love my specialty hot cocoa. I have seen those cuffs and will have to give them a try. Oooh, and a shrug. That would be a fun project. Thanks and I'll see what I can do!! :)

Thanks and hope all is well in Guam!

  32. Kelley says:

Hafa adai! It's me again. Another post idea: a faux fur shrug, basically a tube to fit around the shoulders. Looks so cute over a turtleneck, dresses up jeans. I tried to make one for my daughter, thinking "tube" and it just didn't work at all. I made it just above elbow length, but it didn't fit at the shoulders right. *sigh*

    Thanks! (Guam time, Wednesday, 5p.m.)

  33. Kelley says:

Hafa adai from Guam! Would you consider doing a post on making a washable sleeve for disposable coffee cups? In an old "Real Simple" magazine, I saw that http://www.solutions.com has a cotton one for $15 that has a pocket for money. I also saw in another magazaine that shopgreenbeing.com sells two, $12 and $15. Cristin Powers makes her coffee cup sleeves after getting her cafe's burlap bags the coffee comes in and uses them along with a local furniture store's fabric remnants. Just a thought that I think would make a cute stocking stuffer, not to mention a great post!

BTW: I enjoy your blog immensely. Getting ready to make some Wee Wee Wigwams in case a boy pops out of my neighbor any hour now…

Have a great Wednesday. Ours was!
