Oh guys…..it’s March 1st and the weather here in Oklahoma is absolutely PERFECT! The sun has been constant (in the 60s/70s), the trees have been blossoming, I’ve seen tiny sprouts of fresh new grass pushing through the old stuff….and oooooh, spring is just my very favorite season! So much life, so much color, and everyone/thing starts coming out of hibernation!
This month’s Michaels Makers challenge was a “Spring Refresh” theme….and I knew exactly what I wanted to do — a happy new spring wreath for my door!
Once I saw these peonies at Michael’s, I kinda fell in love! Don’t they look incredibly real?! The outer layer even feels more like a real flower than just silk material….I love them!
And the extra leaves and wildflowers just make me all sorts of excited for fresh new spring-y growth everywhere!
The best part…is that this will take you maybe 15 minutes to put together! Pretty simple (…I’ll show you down below)!
And yes, you could totally place this up on the mantel, hang it in the entry way, or even up on a shelf. But our front porch has been pretty blah since moving here, so I hung mine from our front door and ahhhhhh…….it makes me triple happy, every time I see it! (Okay, that doormat makes me pretty happy too! ;) )
Ready to make your own??
SUPPLIES:
First gather your supplies…
Now, as you’re deciding on foliage to use, these widlflower stems with additional pieces of long grass worked perfectly. They are the foundation to this wreath and give it some cool shape……and also a place for the flowers to kind of nestle in and get cozy.
Section it off and wrap some floral wire around the base….
….and then wrap that wire around your wreath (nice and tight), with the foliage angling outward.
Do the same thing to the other side, creating the widest points of your foliage foundation.
Then add another section of wired foliage to the left side to help fill it in, attaching it closer to the center this time.
Repeat on the right side, attaching closer to the center. (Clip any excess ends with wire cutters, if necessary.)
Now, it’s time to add your flowers. Clip off the majority of your stem, but leave about an inch and then wrap some wire around the base of the flower.
Shove the remaining stem down in to your wreath and then use the attached wire to securely attach the center flower to the wreath. Repeat with the other 2 flowers, placed on either side of this center one.
Now, I found a stem of these large leaves and loved them. I removed them from the stem and wraps wire around the base, just like the flowers.
Then I tucked them behind the flowers and attached with the wire.
Then, I used one more type of wildflower bushes and trimmed off smaller sections…
…and then added them to the left and right sides, tucked behind the flowers.
And that’s it! How simple, right? And beautiful too!! :)
Enjoy!
