The following is a sponsored post but all opinions and experiences are mine. Once I was asked if I was willing to talk about the new Planes movie coming out, I jumped all over it. It was a no-brainer…….because our kids are psyched!! Let me tell you why…
. . . . .
How about a little something fun and chill for today.
And if you read on to the end, there’s a little something free at the end that would help fund a really cool family outing. :)
My little guy Connor (who’s 5 now) and Elli (who’s 6), completely adored the movie Cars as little toddlers. Big surprise, right? I’m sure yours did/does too! Connor and Elli loved Lightning McQueen’s speed, would laugh at Mater’s silly humor, and always thought Doc Hudson’s secret was so cool. They would race each other around the house, as fast as their stubby little toddler legs would carry them, and would impersonate different characters from the movie. But let’s be real, that movie is equally enjoyed by my husband and I as well. We have found ourselves impersonating Tow Mater’s quirky sayings on more than one occasion. (Don’t pretend like you haven’t talked in the Mater voice…..I know you have!)
That’s why, when Cars 2 was released, we were ALL equally excited.
But have you heard about the newest Disney film that takes place in the world above Cars? Yeah, the movie is called Planes. And if you have young kids of your own, you’ve probably known this for a long time. Because you have most likely been asked, oh, 39 times already, “is the Planes movie ready to watch yeeeeeeeeet?!?!“
Soon enough, it will be. So we just watch the trailer for Planes a trillion times instead, to help curb some of that excitement!
And Connor runs around with his planes, filling in the gaps of the story line.
Let me tell you…….he is READY for this Dusty character to come alive on the big screen. You know, the crop duster plane who wants to fly with the high-flying heroes. I guess it makes sense why Connor is drawn to Dusty, because my little guy is a dreamer. He doesn’t notice his limitations most of the time and wants to fly higher than he is sometimes able. He usually wants to try hard things and loves to tell me, “hey mom, let me do that. I know I can do that……I KNOW I can!!“. I love his spunk!
And while I’m seeing similarities in Connor and that Dusty character, I really hope that I can be a little more like ‘Fuel Truck Chug’ and be a bold supporter of even the craziest of dreams. I know I need to stay grounded (and teach Connor about reality and let him feel failure) but dang it, who I am to hold this kid back? If he wants to fly with the big guys…….I’m gonna try my best to polish up his wings and give him a little push down the runway.
And, oh, that Dusty. I like the underdog to win. I love to see the unnoticed get noticed. And I love to watch the excitement of the dreamer in all of us unfold a little more. The characters are all different……some support Dusty, some are realistic with him, and some try to tear him down. And yeah, that’s life. But I just hope I can be a parent who can bend down and take a peek through their little lenses more often.
Little Connor (and Elli and Chloe too!), I hope you’ll always dream big. And take chances. Even when others try to talk you out of it.
Dream on, little buddy!
Only another month before we can grab our salty buckets of popcorn and sit back and enjoy a great family film.
I know, so nerdy, but we’re all excited for it! :)
. . . . .
