Okay, time to vote on the NEXT PROJECT IDEA!!

Wow.  Thank you again and again for chiming in with your project ideas (here)

There were so many rockin’ ideas.  And so many that I would never have thought so many were interested in.  Crazy!  So thank you! :)

But, like explained, I had to narrow down the list.  So……there were several factors that helped me narrow it down: popularity, time, my ability (eek!), and something I could explain in a tutorial.  When I first tried narrowing down the list, it had over 30 of your suggestions on it.  And then I went back and forth and finally narrowed it down to the following 10 ideas

All would be fun.  Some would be harder than others.  And some would be for you, some for kids, some would be great for gifts.  But whatever you choose……..I’ll try my best to tackle it.  (And if I fail, maybe someone else can try it??  haha!)

Anyway, in no particular order or preference, the top 10 Project Ideas:

(this list corresponds with the poll at the very bottom)

1. Curtains.  We can decide on the style later.   (The picture below is for inspiration.  Something similar BUT NOT EXACT will be created.)

2. Apron.  Many had ideas but most of you loved the full length style with a girly silhouette. (The picture below is for inspiration.  Something similar BUT NOT EXACT will be created.)

3. Little Tulle Dress.  That frilly little cute one from Baby Gap. (The picture below is for inspiration.  Something similar BUT NOT EXACT will be created.)

4. Fabric Storage Cubes.  Great way to organize your life. (The picture below is for inspiration.  Something similar BUT NOT EXACT will be created.)

5. Maxi Dress.  A really simple long dress. (The picture below is for inspiration.  Something similar BUT NOT EXACT will be created.)

6. Re-upholstering.  A chair, a loveseat, etc. (The picture below is for inspiration only.)

7. Diaper Bag. One with lots of pockets and dividers. (The picture below is for inspiration.  A diaper bag of some sort will be created.)

8. Fabric Dolls.  Something soft and cuddly and easy to customize the features. (The picture below is for inspiration.  Something similar BUT NOT EXACT will be created.)

9. Pencil Skirt. A simple skirt that is fitted and straight. (The picture below is for inspiration.  Something similar BUT NOT EXACT will be created.)

10. Shopping Cart Baby Cover. One that will keep your baby from touching those dirty shopping carts. (The picture below is for inspiration.  Something similar BUT NOT EXACT will be created.)

Do you have your favorites?  Yep, I do too.

But I want to know what the majority of you would pick.  I can hardly see what that is!

So only pick one.  And then we’ll talk about more of the details when the project has been decided.

**This poll is a free service from a 3rd party website,  Once you vote, it will take you to a page of advertisements.  You can just click away.  Sorry about that…..but because it was free, they have to make their money somehow.  I couldn’t figure out how else to get one in here through WordPress.  So this free one (with annoying ads) will work for now!**

Okay, happy voting!

  1. Becca says:

Just curious if a tutorial for the Little Tulle dress was posted?

  2. Judy says:

ok, I’m choosing, but I’m NOT happy!! I want to do them ALL!! Wow, what a FAB list you’ve chosen. Can’t we make this a year project & do them all?? Thnx so very much for starting this.

  3. Mo says:

Still no new post…..i’m anxiously waiting>>>>>

  4. Amy says:

Oooo lets do the tulle dress please please please!! My little one year old needs a pretty dress for her aunt’s wedding in a month but it has to be red and I can’t find a good one in red anywhere yet, I could totally make one if i had the right tutorial!!!

  5. vicki says:

fabric storage cubes, then the fabric doll. I need to make that for christmas presents. The bins, then the doll in it!

  6. Susan Krauss says:

I vote for the Maxi Dresses because I loooooooooove them so much! You should make one in a plus size!! :)

  7. Sheila says:

I would love to see your version of the reupholstering project. Your instructions are always so clear and simple to follow.

  8. Cicilia says:

Definitely APRON! It is uber cute!

  9. Pam Pike says:

I would love to try all of these but I guess the most practical that I could put to uses now would be the storage cubes. Looks like the same is true for others so far. Maybe you could expand this to include a basic square shape as well as other shapes good for mail storage pantry goods etc.

  10. Alyssa says:

Shopping cart baby cover, Diaper bag, Tulle dress

  11. Netty says:

Can you do them all??? :) LOVE all your tutorials!!! They are so easy to follow! :) I voted for the diaper bag but the maxi dress was a close second.

  12. Anonymous says:

    Muñecas de tela! Fabric Dolls!

  13. Cheryl says:

  14. Lindsay says:

We really have to pick just ONE!?!?!? I really love all 10!!!

  15. kiersten says:

I LOVE that little dress. I saw a similar one at JCrew, and I’ve been coveting it for my hasn’t-yet-been-born baby girl ever since!

  16. Laura Chipman says:

Man, can’t we do all of them? : ) I would say that 7 out of the ten are things that I have wanted to make. Thanks for doing this, it is so fun.

  17. Aleta says:

Having to choose just 1 gave me a little anxiety!! lol I really love all 10 ideas so I agree with everyone else you are amazing and any of the above will be a fun and much loved project. WE WILL MAKE IT AND WE WILL LOVE IT!!!!

  18. mary young says:

i agree– so hard to choose because they all look great- its fun to see your talent come to life!

    1. Carly says:

Agreed, so hard to choose. Love the tulle dress and fabric dolls. We paid $40 for Olivia.

  19. Michele N says:

There were a few that I really liked. But I had to vote for the fabric cubes, since I suggested it first on your previous post! And am excited that it’s in the lead right now! There are patterns out there for curtains & aprons that are really cute, I think I currently have 3 patterns for each, but haven’t found anything for storage cubes & I know that you would put a cute spin on it. Thanks Ashley for all the great ideas & tutorials!

  20. ali says:

SO excited to see other people want the fabric storage bins as well! simiar bins are at least $10 a pop over here, and we just got a cute shelf for my daughter with room for 9 bins…$90 no thanks! awaiting what ever tutorial you make but hoping its this one! LOVE your site! this is my first comment altho ive been an avid reader, im so thankfull for all the time you put into this…

  21. Amy C. says:

I vote for the maxi dress with sleeves:)!! Thanks for asking for our opinions!

  22. Tara says:

I would for you to do the re-upholstering a chair project. I just got fabric to re-upholster a chair and now need to the know how.

  23. Chantel says:

It was really hard to choose! I would LOVE for you to create tutorials for all of these projects…they’re all great ideas and your tutorials are the best!

  24. Lisa says:

It was hard to choose just one, I love the maxi dress (especially with a sleeve option), the pencil skirt, and re-upholstering but I voted for apron. I agree you should do them all!

  25. Valerie Nelson says:

Oh man! so hard to just choose one! I already voted on the tulle dress, but the apron and the shopping cart cover were right up there for me! Stoked to try whatever you come up with!!

  26. Jessica says:

If reupholstering wins and you need a sample piece, I live in the Denver area and have a chair that could use a new life!

  27. HW says:

There’s already a really great diaper bag tutorial (with lots of pockets) out there:
I used it for my diaper bag and LOVE it.

So I’d rather see something else–especially a reupholstered project or fabric storage cubes. I agree with an above comment–if you do a maxi dress please include an option for short sleeves. I’m looking forward to seeing what you do!

  28. Kel says:

Oh it was so hard! I ended up voting for the shopping trolley cover – I have an apron I’m working on (and can’t figure out how to do the curves at the arm), I have curtain material I bought months ago – but every single woman I know is desperate for a trolley cover and you just can’t seem to find them in the stores or the markets here! I would love to make some for all my lovely friends who are currently pregnant (something’s in the water here – just about everyone I know is!).

Whatever you choose will of course be FANTASTIC – Thank you again for being online!

  29. Heather says:

Reupholster a chair please! I have one sitting in my basement that needs attention!

  30. Stephanie says:

I voted for the fabric storage bins, but only if they’re not shaped out of cardboard- while it’s cheap and easy, my kids would thrash it in a day.

  31. Joanna A. says:

Can I vote for more than one?? :) Fabric cubes, Maxi dress, and shopping cart cover, please!! :) All are great ideas!!

  32. Chari says:

not fair there are so many choices :-p glad everyone so far is picking what I want the most, fabric storage cubes!!

  33. Laura@Laura's Crafty Life says:

Next time you need to do a poll, try They have a basic service you can use for free without a bunch of advertisements to click through! :)

  34. Sharon says:

I have that exact apron!!! Too funny! There are several great options…it was hard to choose!

  35. Gloria says:

I chose the re-upholstering project. I have a chair with cushions just like those that I would love to remake. Hopefully the chair you pick has that kind of cushions as well!
Curtains are also a good choice, as anyone has a curtain in their homes, and sooner or later we all get in a “re-decore” mood.

  36. Shannon says:

I think that they are all great!!! Hmmmmm…. Maybe do them all??? hehe I’m a little greedy :D I always look forward to seeing what you do next

  37. Cecilia says:

I think that the poll should indicate the order in which you’re going to make the tutorials =) All the ideas are way toooooo cute to pick just one

  38. loni says:

Can the runner up be after the winning choice?? :) you could have your next 10 crafts (or however many you want to try you hand at) all planned out for you! what fun choices…i was a tough thing to vote! LOL!!

  39. Valerie says:

I am thinking how the Fabric Storage Cubes would be a good way to use some of those focus fabrics I’ve bought over the years that I haven’t wanted to cut like my pretty sunflower fabrics. And what a good way to use up some fun kids fabrics!

  40. Susan says:

Really hard to just choose one! I’m excited for the fabric storage cubes, but would really love to see some tutorials on re-upholstering too….can’t wait!

  41. Tomena Reed says:

Oh my I am really suppose to pick just one? I love them ALL!

P.S. I was going to request (and didn’t get around to it) the smock top curtains from pottery barn. I actually bought some sheer linen looking curtians for really cheap Target just for the project but I’ve been afraid to ruin them since they are so “thin”….. just an idea if you are going to do curtains.

  42. Jenni says:

Why is there not an all of the above button??????? Thank you for doing any of these!

  43. Melanie says:

OMGoodness…that is just crazy…how do I pick just ONE! I hope we’ll get to see several of these over time, but I guess I’ll go through ennie…mennie…minie…mo from my top 3 or 4…CAN’T wait!

  44. Rachel says:

Sooo hard to choose just one. I chose reupholstering because I am itching to do it. Just need to buy a chair to recover! Thanks for doing this. I love your site and just made the fabric flowers you posted a while ago. Looks like the storage cubes are winning, which I would love to know how to make those as well. You’re the best!

    1. Shannon says:

I voted for re-upholstery too and I have a chair thats stares at me daily that is in some serious need of help (a friend saw it and thought of me Nice…Yes!!) But I have no idea on where to start!!! I love all the choices tho

  45. Gabrielle Barrick says:

Definitely the fabric cubes! So many of the others are easy to find patters for (diaper bags, shopping cart covers, curtains, etc). Just last week I was looking at our cubes from Target and wondering how to make my own ~ a tutorial for that would rock my world!

  46. Dana Scarbrough says:

You’re going to keep all these ideas in reserve right??? Man! So hard to choose, but I finally voted haha.

    1. Monique says:

I was hoping the same thing!!!!

  47. Jax says:

oooh fabulous… I voted Maxi dress, but any of them would be great!!!

  48. Michelle S. says:

So I voted, and honestly, I don’t think we can really lose no matter which option wins! There were like four that I really wanted to vote for but I went with my first choice. I’m excited to see which project will be coming up!

  49. Coley says:

great ideas, but I would LOVE to know how to re-upholster!

  50. Christina P. says:

I love all of these ideas; I can’t wait to start on some fun new projects! Thank you!

  51. kristen says:

I have been looking ALL OVER for a good apron pattern– please please do that! I see that the fabric boxes are winning but Deborah from Whipstitch already did a great job with that tutorial…. apron! apron! (I voted)

  52. Rachel says:

I cast my vote for a maxi dress . . . with the addendum that I’d like it to have short sleeves! I’m sure I could sew a sleeveless maxi dress, no problem, but I’d love a really cute one with sleeves on it :-)

    1. Amy says:

      Yes! I second this!

    2. Kate C says:

      I third this!

  53. Keri says:

I love so many of those! How about the top 3 choices? :)

  54. Adelina Priddis says:

Too many cute ideas! But I really need some curtain help :)

  55. Renee says:

ONE? Just ONE project to pick??? Are you kidding me? Ok… so I chose curtains because that’s one project I *hope* to tackle yet this year. We have a large wall of windows that need to be covered and doing so with store bought would cost a freaking fortune!

  56. Amber says:

Polldaddy has poll for free without adds :)

  57. Lyndi says:

It was soooo hard to choose just one! I love the idea of having us submit suggestions and then vote on them. I think we should do it again! :) Thanks!
