Inexpensive Thanksgiving Pumpkin Place Cards

Hello Make It and Love It readers! It’s Emma from Crafting{E} today and I’m so excited to share this Thanksgiving Place Card craft with you today. Thanksgiving is coming up, and now that Halloween is over, it’s time to start actually thinking about Thanksgiving.

I am super into all things “fall” right now, and I thought it would be fun to try and make Thanksgiving placards using pumpkins! I absolutely love how they turned out!

This craft is such a simple, but impactful way to make your Thanksgiving a little extra special. Even if you don’t have a big budget to spend on decorations to make your Thanksgiving table look amazing, simply making these inexpensive pumpkin place cards can make your table look more festive.

The look of the white pumpkins combined with the curled ribbon and upholstery fabric “stem” gives these place cards an adorable, unique, and rustic look.

You guys will be amazed by how simple these are to make! Only a couple of minutes per pumpkin! Read below to get the full tutorial on how to make these adorable place cards:

  • Small pumpkins
  • Burlap or grosgrain ribbon
  • Upholstery fabric or burlap for making the “stem”
  • Hot glue gun
  • Twine
  • Tags with the names of the guests written on them
  • Wooden dowel, clothes pins, and tin foil


  • First, use pliers to remove the stem of your pumpkin

  • Save

  • Cut 1 strip of upholstery fabric or burlap 1×7 inches

  • Save

  • Tightly roll the fabric strip, right side facing out. Hot glue the edge to secure

  • Save

  • Hot glue to the top of the pumpkin where the stem would have been

  • Save

  • Cut 18″ of ribbon and wrap it around a wooden dowel. Secure the ends with clothespins.

  • Save

  • Run ribbons and dowel under water until completely wet.
  • Place ribbon and dowel on a tin foil covered cookie sheet and bake at 235 degrees for 20 minutes.
  • When the ribbon is done baking, pull it gently off of the dowel and hot glue it around the fabric stem of the pumpkin.

  • Save

  • Cut out tags with the names of the guests and tie it around the stem of the pumpkin with twine or string.
