Christmas Wall Vinyl framed with EMPTY FRAMES

Because I’ve been having so much fun with my Silhouette lately,
let me show you how I’m getting ready for Christmas….

I’ve used the vinyl (that I actually purchased here for much cheaper) to put some great vinyl right on the wall…….and then added some hanging empty frames right over top.

I just love this season.

Each of the frames are hung with little strips of red wool herringbone…..tied into floppy little bows.

(Strips of fabric were made by making long tubes of fabric, turning right side out, pressing flat, sewing ends shut, and looping through the empty frame, and then tying into a bow.)

And each of those frames are cheap-y thrift store frames, spray painted black, and the glass and backing taken out.

See how those frames are actually just framing the vinyl that’s applied to the wall?

My first piece of Christmas decor that I have displayed out in the open.

Ahhhh……I love this time of year.

The font for “Him” is called Vivaldi (came with Microsoft Word) and I can’t remember the other font used.  I just played around with different fonts until I found a simpler one that matched well.  As for the images, they are only available through the little online Silhouette store that you get access too once you install the Silhouette software.  Here’s the info on them:

  • Nativity_holy_family_0541
  • Nativity_shephards_0542
  • Nativity_stable_0543

**Keep in mind that you can either purchase pre-cut vinyl and make your own Christmas decor (there are many vinyl dealers online), cut it out on your own craft cutter, or buy some vinyl and cut it out with an Exacto knife.

Hello…. I know that you are very busy and all but I have been in love with these Christmas vinyl cutouts since you first posted them and would love to have them above my mantle this Christmas. I have NO idea how to go about getting them though :( Is there any way that you could cut them out for me and I can pay you via Paypal?
There would be no rush as Christmas is still a long ways away…..
I’ll wait to hear from you!!!!

Please let me know if you’re ever interested in publishing your tutorials/patterns with FaveCrafts!

  7. Suzanne says:

I absolutely love this idea! It is so pretty. Do you have any idea where I could pick up the vinyls pre-made. I do not have a silhouette, so I can’t make my own :-( Also what do yours measure? Thanks!!

  8. Heather B says:

HI! I love this idea, and was JUST wondering what I should do with my nativity silhouettes this year! Two things to help you and your followers out. One, there is a font at Lettering Delights called DB Nativity, which happily cuts on my silhouette (I have old school and love freebies) in their Christmas section, that is nothing but nativity cut outs. Silhouette had theirs on sale this past week for Black Friday, and they also have an adorable “flight into Egypt” one of Joseph and Mary and the baby Jesus and the donkey, as if leaving to Egypt. Really beautifully done, worth checking out (no affiliation with LD, btw, only like my font!) Cost for the font is three dollars, but you get a lot of Characters, and the right and left hand versions in case you prefer a different layout than on the Silhouette store.

Additional totally Free one I found that would work ok but not as high quality cuts (except one particularly lovely one):

Non religious Holiday one/vitorian carolers, etc:

Also, I found a MUCH cheaper site for excellent indoor and outdoor vinyl than Expressions. Sometimes their selection of colors is not as great as other times, but a 8″ by 32″ roll (so 8 inches by ten yards and some change, like Expressions has for 24 dollars plus shipping) is only Thirteen dollars plus shipping. It’s the perfect size for my Silhouette SD machine and cuts like a dream. Their price on iron on vinyl is not as good as the wall vunyl, maybe, but still, if you’re just starting out and need basic colors, it’s high quality vinyl for a lot, lot less. For me, it’s Cheaper even than I can buy the official, thinned, Silhouette vinyl in the store, and we all know that itself is a lot more expensive than the cricut teeny tiny sheets for ten bucks per two! And no, I’m absolutely NOT affiliated with Coastal, I just got my first order from them and used it yesterday and then saw your gorgeous post and was shocked by the price difference in those two places! Coastal also has some of the cool patterned vinyl, and glow in the dark, and fun stuff like flocked iron on and all, but I haven’t tried their iron ons. Their vinyl by the yard for indoor/outdoor seems to be only slightly thicker than the silhouette vinyl, and I like how it makes it easier to weed out, imho.

Linkie for that, here: Link to where I bought my basic colors of on sale vinyl specifically, here:

And I just noticed they have cuttable iron on printable stuff, too. I got one of their squeegees as well, and they have the blade for the Silhouette. If you have a bigger machine than mine, they sell 15″x32″ and 24″x32′ as well as larger things. I only have the SD… saving up for a Cameo sometime in a couple of years, but this is fine for me now!

Thanks for giving my sister and I a great idea for our livingrooms! I think we’re going to do the vinyl directly onto the glass in the frames, with no backing, so we have easier replacement (or lazier replacement, lol) for next year! As ever- Thanks for a great, crafty blog!-HB

I feel like every time I find something on Pinterest that I ADORE its from your blog. Thanks for posting so many creative ideas! Will vinyl stick to textured walls? We rent a place with plaster/textured walls that is impossible to hang anything from or on. I’m trying to decorate and hitting a wall. Do you have any tips?

Oh my gosh I love this!

  63. bethanndodd says:

This is beautiful and fun! If I don't win I am totally buying one on Monday…already got it ok-d by the hubby ;o)

  64. Connie says:

Very nice. Love how the vinyl is on the wall with just the frames hanging over.

  65. Ashley says:

Jenny! – Vinyl is used to be easily removed from the wall without it peeling the paint. If you're unsure about a certain paint texture, I would try a hidden spot before applying it. But I haven't had any problem removing the vinyl. And yes, it will come right down after the holidays without any problem.

    I buy my vinyl here:

They offer great prices so that I can afford to put up different vinyl for different seasons.
