Baby Max turned ONE!!!

I don’t know how many times I’ve said this, read this, heard my mother say this, etc….but kids grow up WAY TOO FAST!!!  Especially those of the baby variety.  I find myself constantly reminding my babies to stop digging through the trash, playing in the toilet water, throwing their banana chunks off the high chair tray, and yes, to stop growing up so quickly.  But dang it, once you take your eyes off of them for even a second, they do all those things anyway! HA! ;)

So even though I’ve been pleading with Max for the past 12 months to stay little, the little sneak somehow turned into a ONE year old!

But you know, the one thing that I do love about watching my babies grow, is watching them turn into these beautiful little humans, with their own minds and personalities.  And let me tell you guys…..this little boy is a treasure.  And is full of laughter and intrigue.  And has each one of us wrapped around his chubby little finger.  Even the dog.  Haha!

I have noticed in this past year, that little Max does things on his own time….including coming home from the hospital as a newborn.  (More about his 11 day stay in the NICU, here.)  He has no interest in walking or even pulling himself up to things….but I think it’s because he absolutely loves being doted on!  It’s a really good thing he came 5th into this family because he has 4 older siblings who love carrying him around, dressing him up, and pushing him around in wagons and doll strollers.  All the while….this kid laughs and plays his part!  We have all figured out that he’s definitely the remedy for a bad day. :)

For Max’s birthday, we just had a small family party….but good grief, this boy loved all the attention!  And was really interested in that flame atop his birthday cake!  (Don’t worry….the camera is deceiving you.  It’s actually too far away for him to actually touch.)

We generally don’t give our babies many sweet things before their first birthday….so the 1st birthday cake is always a shock to their bellies and usually ends up with some discomfort later on.  So for Max, I decided to make some whipped cream and only sweetened it a tad, and then used that as the “frosting”…..and it worked perfectly.  Max wasn’t sure what to do at first, but Chloe (who’s 7) pushed his hand in, which he licked….and then decided it was pretty delicious!

And after that….Max was in HOG HEAVEN!!! Haha!

Watching babies unwrap presents is always pretty funny to me.  They’re not sure what they are doing or what they should be more excited about….the paper on the outside, or the expressions on everyone’s face who is watching!  They are so clueless that we want them to be delighted about the contents inside the wrapping….haha!

But once we showed Max that there was something noisy and colorful inside….he was sold!

I really do love how much these big kiddos love their baby brother.  It’s funny to hear how they think everything he does is just “so cute”!

Once of his favorite gifts though….were these super soft foam pool toys.  Turns out, they provide a great way to “whack” your big brothers! Ha! ;)

Another favorite though….was this wooden activity box that is sturdy enough for Max to hold onto while standing.  (Not that he pulls himself up to it…..because he knows someone else will do that for him….haha!  He’ll figure it out eventually though.)

Man, this kid.  He really is a such a happy little nugget.  After having our 4th child, Oliver, we thought he was probably our caboose.  But good grief, I can’t imagine life without little Max.  He has wiggled himself right into the nooks and crannies of our hearts…..and has known exactly how to bind our family together so tight!
