A sneak peek (…and where I’ve been)

Oh my. ((sigh))

October has always been my most favorite time of year to sew.  I look forward to sewing costumes for my kids and the more challenging, the better!  I love figuring things out and yeah, sometimes they don’t go quite as planned, but I can’t even tell you how exciting it is when something works out even BETTER than expected!  I have lists and lists of ideas from my own brain that I want to try and squeeze in this little month of October.  (I even have a dedicated note page on my phone app, dedicated to costume ideas!!!) And then my kids’ costume requests on top of that…….October is totally my sewing jam!

However —-this year hasn’t gone quite as I’d hoped.

I started making plans over a month ago for Halloween costumes and even had you guys vote on your top requested costume, so I could make something YOU all wanted to make.  Even if it wasn’t something any of my kids have been wanting to wear.  BUT…….I’ve been sick.  For weeks.  And it has really put a wrench in my sewing plans.  Bummer.

But the good news is……..I just started some new meds a few days ago and have been feeling SO MUCH BETTER! Oh my gosh you guys, SO MUCH better!!

So, the winner of the costume vote has been “in progress” for weeks!  (And for the record, I let the poll stay open for a full week and then looked at the results.  The winner then and the winner that it’s showing now, is different. I didn’t realize it had changed until this very second….buuuuuut, I’m going with the first winner!) It doesn’t usually take me weeks to finish a costume but I would do a tiny bit and then would feel too sick…..would wait a few days and then try to do more…..then would feel rotten……would try again a few days later…..and then it got shoved into a corner! Ack!

But yesterday, I finished it right up……and am SO EXCITED with how it turned out! Here’s a little sneaky peek that I snapped with my phone—-

I can hardly wait to show you the rest TOMORROW!

Okay, enough belly aching about feeling sick and taking FOREVER to finish a stinkin’ costume! I’m ready to share a few more costumes this week and next, even though it’s a little late in the game.  Maybe a few of you have procrastinated a little, and will find a few of my ideas useful!  I sure hope so!

Anyway, just didn’t want anyone to think I had completely forgotten about costumes! I promise…they’re coming (though not as many as in years past)!

Talk to you soon!

I LOVE this. My daughter was pretty adamant on being a black cat and I was going to work on her costume and my son (mouse) tonight but she just saw this and she wants to be a butterfly. I am thinking little brother could be a caterpillar. Can you tell me which store you bought your fabric? Joann? Dowels there too? I actually made your parrot costume for my daughter and I got SO MANY compliments on it.

    1. Ashley says:

Ha….how funny that she changed her mind so quickly! And sure, I bought everything at Joann’s.

And ooooh, that parrot one is a cute one too. So glad you’re having so much fun making all these costumes!!! :)

I am so glad you are feeling better. Medication is just wonderful to help us get feeling back to ourselves sometimes! I am just getting going on costumes myself. Last week was spent madly sewing a Birthday dress, and now on to an elephant, a dog, and a Cinderella apron for me so I can wear it all year, and have my kids be happy that I dressed up. :)
