Mod Podge Fabric Tattoos…easy on/off application! (Edited: APRIL FOOL’S!!)

EDITED TO ADD:  Happy April Fool’s!!!!  (More on that HERE!)

. . . . .

My kids received some Easter Eggs last weekend that had some little mini tattoos inside.  They love those vibrant and colorful tattoos but the rule in our house is that they have to apply them in a place where they are hidden by their clothing.  And that’s because when those things start wearing off, it no longer looks like cute butterflies and super heroes…..it just looks — dirty.  And like they haven’t bathed in 13 days….eek!  And I know you can rub them off and/or use polish remover, etc…..but I somehow always forget about those dang things and then we arrive somewhere, like church (or family pictures), I suddenly realize that those once really cute and colorful tattoos are now nasty brown blobs smeared all over their arms and legs!

So, here’s my solution…

Mod Podge Fabric Tattoos…with an easy on/off application!

Just cut any shape or design out of fabric (the options are endless!) and then add an even layer of Mod Podge directly on the skin.  Then, place the fabric right on top.

Next, cover the fabric and the surrounding skin with another very generous coat of Mod Podge!  In fact, the THICKER the layer, the better!!!

And if you get a little messy with the Mod Podge, no biggee…it dries clear in just a few minutes!!!

Once your kids are ready for a different tattoo, simply peel it right off (think of grade school when you covered your hand in Elmer’s glue and then peeled it off) and then start again!  And yeah, there’s globs of dried Mod Podge you’ll have to scrub off their skin which might remind you of the original tattoos I mentioned at the beginning of this post, but hey, at least this stuff is clear! ;)

Oh, and one more thing…

.

.

.

Another small piece of advice before beginning your project…

.

.

.

Something you’ll need to remember each and EVERY time you apply your tattoos!

.

.

.

Be sure to always remember to….

APRIL FOOL’S!!!!!!!

Happy April 1st, friends!!!!!  You know I can’t help having a little fun on this day, Every. Single. Year!  Hahaha!!!  I don’t know why I insist on tricking people every April Fool’s……but I get such a kick out of it! (Here’s some of the April Fool’s Day craft tutorials from the past that I have tried to convince you are real, and sure enough…..I always trick a few of you readers into thinking I’m absolutely bonkers!!!)

But even though these tattoos aren’t such a terrible idea in theory, they really are a bad idea!  Smearing Mod Podge was a mess and then peeling the stuff off after we were done with the pictures was almost as annoying as the original temporary tattoos that kids use all the time!  Oh, and once they twisted their arm or disrupted the dried Mod Podge, it puckered the tattoo and it started peeling up…….so this is definitely just a prank craft idea, nothing more!!!! ;)

Ahhhh……April Fool’ Day is so silly — but we have fun with it!

. . . . .

In fact, Elli and Connor came up with their own friendly and harmless prank to pull on their teachers at school today…..and they were SO EXCITED about it!  They came up with the idea to tell their teachers they made some goodies last night at home with their mom (that’s me!) and they made extra and wanted to share.  But when they opened up the goody box, their teachers would find this —–

Hahaha…..I thought it was such a clever idea!  And they could hardly wait to give it to them!  I swear, they giggled the whole way to school this morning. Ha!

You know how as parents, we’re so proud when our kids follow in our footsteps and develop an interest for reading or traveling or discover a love for a particular sporting event???  Well, I might be the weirdest mom ever, but I think it’s endearing that they want to come up with clever pranks to pull on their friends and family, just like I do. Ha! But let me be clear, we have talked a trillion times that it’s only funny if the other person thinks it’s funny.  So we only trick people if it’s harmless and will cause them to smile/laugh!  If we’re unsure…skip it.

. . . . .

Oh, and since we’re talking pranks……when my kiddos woke up this morning, I told them it was late and they needed to hustle to the kitchen for breakfast.  I also told them I bought some fun cereal at the store yesterday (which is very rare) just for fun, so their bowls of chocolate-y marshmallow Kung Foo Panda cereal was ready and waiting for them…and they were EXCITED!

However, I poured the cereal the night before, added milk, and then placed them in the freezer over night……so their faces were priceless this morning when they tried dipping their spoon into their cereal to take their first highly anticipated bite.  Ooops….frozen solid! ;)

(These faces are a re-enactment, because as you can see, there’s a second bowl of edible cereal that they happily gobbled right up!)

Haha!

And just so you know, Kung Foo Panda was loved by every child this morning (I mean, hello, SUGAR!) and each one of them tried eating the frozen stuff after eating their regular bowl of cereal.  Ewwww!  (Because before it actually froze solid, it became soggy in the freezer.  Yuck!)

Okay, back to normal life blogging friends!  Oh and let me know if you have pulled any pranks on your family today!  Or if you’ve been tricked…..I love hearing what others have done!

HAHA!! You got me again… 6 years later, I’m finally catching on sooner, lol!! I must say I even talked about your “onesie” trick (last year?) just the other day, except… I honestly liked the idea!! my son’s clothes are never clean anyway! :-P At least this year I figured it out BEFORE you said “April fools” – I don’t know if you’re slacking or I’m finally wising up!

  2. Jill says:

Haha! I stuck veggies cut small and roundish on a sucker stick then wrapped a dum-dum wrapper over the veggie part so it totally looked like a dum-dum. My kids know I have a stash of dum-Dums leftover from an event and they always ask for one. So today when they asked for one, I said “sure, it’s Friday. Why not!” And gave them the veggie suckers. Their faces when they opened them were hilarious. Ranging from amusement to disgust to anger. I guess for some of them sugar is not a joking matter!

  3. Sally says:

You SO reeled me in! I was actually thinking of fabrics to use!

  4. Jaime says:

I’ve been waiting for this. Then when I saw it I was hoping it would actually work. Maybe mod podge needs to get on it with a “made for skin” medium…

  5. Melody Benschoter says:

    Ha! I’m totally laughing!
Last night I snuck out to the garage and wrote in HUGE letters on my husband’s car windows “Married!” “Groom” “Bride” and “Honk to congratulate us!” and I tied cans to the back of his car. I knew he wouldn’t discover it early enough to erase the windows before driving to work.
For the kids we tried switching them all into each other’s beds last night, but two of them woke up, so it only worked for our littlest. I also swapped all their eggs into the wrong Easter baskets (each kid has their own color- making it easy to switch back), swapped all of their shoes into each other’s shoe bins, served leftover Easter cake for breakfast in HUGE serving bowls with HUGE serving spoons, and stuck candy eyes on everything in their lunches! My 7 year old wanted in on the action, so he scraped the filling out of Oreos and replaced it with toothpaste. I’m going to have to show him what your kids did this year- he’ll love that idea!

  6. Caitlin says:

I’ve literally been checking your blog every few hours to see what you posted. So funny! Thanks for the warning about not really trying this because I was totally thinking it was a cool idea!

  7. Kim N says:

I checked for your April Fool’s joke earlier in the day, before your post appeared, then was so happy to see it in my email :)
I’ll have to remember the frozen cereal joke! Happy April Fool’s Day!

  8. Mary says:

I totally forgot about your fondness for April Fools pranks, so you got me this year!

  9. Krista says:

I knew you would have a good one!!! I stuck googly eyes on the milk, OJ, bananas, family pictures, and the bathroom mirror. The kids thought that was hilarious! My husband messed with the languages on my phone, made the home screen on our computer upside down, and hung one of my bras on each of the ceiling fan blades in our room. My kids gave me a Easter basket filled with toy snakes. Apparently they had been planning that one for days! My proud Mama heart! I totally get your love of silly jokes and pranks.

  10. Alayna says:

You almost had me! Incidentally, this very thing does work quite well on blown out eggs for Easter. I looked everywhere for cute temporary tattoos to put on eggs but couldn’t find any. I finally ended up cutting flowers out of fabric and paper napkins and mod podged them to the eggs. Worked great! Not so much on skin though. Bummer.

  11. Beth says:

It had crossed my mind earlier today that you would have something fun up your sleeve…and then I totally forgot about it…until I got to the end of your post!!! haha!!! Even though I was half expecting something earlier today, you still got me!

  12. Jennifer says:

Another regular reader checking in to see what you thought of this year. :) I love that you do this! It is like the pixar animators who spend all those extra hours animating the bloopers. Hope you’ve had a fun filled day!

  13. Diane W says:

I’ve been waiting for your prank…ha. (I dislike tatoos in any shape or form…fyi.) Thanks again for a good laugh.

  14. Jo says:

Been waiting all morning for this – you don’t disappoint!

    1. Ashley says:

You’re so great……glad you get my humor! :)

  15. Laura says:

You get me every time! I was reading it thinking, “Boy, I don’t know if that seems like a good idea, won’t it be a mess while waiting to dry? And isn’t it going to hurt and pull their hairs out when you take it off?” I forgot what day it is!

    Too funny!

    1. Ashley says:

      Hahaha…….I love that you’re such a good sport! ;)

  16. Stacey says:

The frozen cereal is great! I knew you would have a prank today so I came looking for it and you didn’t disappoint!! Happy April Fools!

  18. Mom says:

You got me ,as usual, again this morning on the phone!!! The frozen cereal for the kids was priceless. I wonder if anyone will actually think you mod podged your kids. Fun to look back to past years. Proud Mom

    1. Ashley says:

I love that I can still trick you! ;)

  19. Ana says:
